Stumps of old piers form a stark contrast with the new gantry cranes in the port of Felixstowe.
The port of Felixstowe which handles around 2 million containers a year stands opposite Harwich on the estuary of the Orwell and Deben rivers on the east coast of England. The port is the busiest container port in great Britain dealing with over a third of the country’s container cargo, with two main terminals – Trinity and Landguard. With the main navigation channel dredged to a maximum depth of 15 metres Felixstowe boasts deep water able to accommodate the latest generation of post-Panamax vessels along its continuous quay of over kilometres, fitted with 25 gantry cranes.
