Illustration of light therapy used to treat skin lesions and skin cancer. A photosensitising agent is applied in liquid or cream form. This substance is mainly absorbed by pathogenic cells. Exposure to blue or red light activates the substance which has penetrated into the tissue, causing targeted destruction of the cells which absorbed it.
