Osteitis Deformans (Pagets Disease).—Osteitis deformans is aslowly progressive process which usually involves most of thebones, but in rare forms may be limited to one, particularlyone end of the tibia. It shows extensive thickening of the cortexon both sides, with enlargement and bowing of the bone and re-arrangement of the trabeculse into strands or bundles running lon-gitudinally. The medulla shows mottled areas of rarefaction whichusually extend into the epiphysis. This involvement of the epiphysisis important in the differentiation from lues, which very rarelyaffects the epiphysis in the same manner. In the skull this conditioncauses an increase in the size of the head as a result of expansionof the cranial bones, which show great thickening of both tablesand coarse mottling throughout the 66 BONE PATHOLOGY Malignant Lesions.—Sarcoma.—Giant-celled sarcoma is probablynot a true malignan
