Violet sabrewing hummingbird (Campylopterus hemileucurus) male hovering in flight. Hummingbirds flap their wings many times per second, using a long curved bill to feed on nectar in flowers. This large hummingbird reaches lengths of 15 centimetres. It is found in tropical Central America, on the edges of wet mountain forests. Photographed in Costa Rica.
