White Indians of Darien. US engineer and ethnologist Richard Oglesby Marsh (left, 1883-1953) with a group of the Kuna (or Guna) people from Panama that he had brought to Washington DC, USA, in 1924. The group included 'white Indians'. They stayed at the New Willard Hotel to be examined by government scientists. At far right is Marsh's wife Helen Louise Cleveland. Marsh was leader of the Marsh-Darien expeditions to Panama (1924 to 1925). Marsh later published on the topic in 'Blond Indians of the Darien Jungle' (1925) and 'White Indians of Darien' (1934). Photographed by the Harris and Ewing photographic studio on 15 October 1924.
