Hong Kong is a territory located on China's south coast on the Pearl River Delta. With a population of million people it is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. Beginning as a trading port, it became a dependent territory of the UK in 1842 until the transfer of its sovereignty to China in 1997, but it has a high degree of autonomy, is largely self-governing and maintains a capitalist economy.
