A German rapier,circa 1600 Slender thrusting blade of flattened hexagonal section,shortened at the base. Signed "DE HORTUNO DE AGUIR EN TOLEDO" in the fuller. Swept hilt with knucklebow and slightly tapered octagonal quillons. Grip cover has replacement iron wire winding and braided ferrules. Oval pommel with decorative chasing. Assembled from old pieces.
