Bright Prickly Pear Flower (Opuntia ficus indica) Detail Against a Bright Blue Sky, Sardinia, Italy.

The prickly pear tree (Opuntia ficus indica) is known locally in Sardinia as Figu Morisca. This spiky, cactus looking succulent can grow up to 5 meters tall. It produces these colourful yellow flowers from April to June. These then form egg shaped fruits. In Sardinia, these are usually eaten raw or made into a tasty liquor or delicious jam.
