The housewith which that trip is associated was latera tavern and, fortunately for us, is still stand-ing. It is called the Frary House and is nowowned by Miss C. Alice Baker, a descendantof Samson Frary, whose name the placebears. The older part of the Frary House wasbuilt in 1689, the other half being added in1748 when the whole house was used as atavern. The spacious dancing hall of theplace, which is thirty-three feet long andproportionately wide, was the scene of manya festive gathering in those tavern days andits spring floor still responds, at Miss Bakersprivate parties, to the impetus of the lightfantastic toe.
