Wild hops and green Mulla Mulla (Ptilotus fasciculatus) growing amongst old opal mines at White Cliffs, New South Wales

Wild hops are not native to Australia. The seeds of the plant were brought to Australia by the Afghan camel drivers who carried freight and goods to outback settlements by camel trains. The plants were used to stuff the camels' saddle bags and the seeds were dispersed when bags broke.
