The trade in hand-made British candles is booming this year with one tiny workshop in The Peak District, literally burning the midnight-oil as they work double shifts to keep up with demand for their premium candles. “There’s been a definite up-turn in people spending on life’s luxuries,” said Annie Maudling, 48, who owns ‘On a Wick and a Prayer’, and has been making candles from her workshop in Tissington, Derbyshire for the last 14 years.
