CLARK The history of the Talbot Mills datesback to 1851, when Ebenezer Chadwick,president of the Middlesex Canal Company,conveyed the property, at that time used asa grist mill, for $20,000 to Charles P. Tal-bot, of Lowell, and Thomas Talbot, of Bil-lerica, manufacturers and co-partners. Thepurchasers were brothers carrying on busi-ness in North Billerica under the firm nameof C. P. Talbot & Co. The property con-sisted of water power, stone dam, and over20 acres of land with the buildings thereon. C. P. Talbot & Co., were also grinders ofdye-woods and manufacturers of chemicalsand conducted this business from 1839 to1884. In 185 7 the Talbot Mills were es-tablished by mutual agreement with a woolen company which continued until Oc-tober 1, 1862, when C. P. Talbot & Com-pany took full possession.
