Iron filings burning in a gas flame in air. Iron filings dropped into a gas flame get heated and may even melt to form droplets before being thrown out of the flame by pressure and turbulence effects. As they reach free air, the still-hot filings react, flaring to white heat as they burn to form iron oxide. This is the cause of the sparks seen.
