Four lazy African lions enjoy a sleepy afternoon together in the sunshine in their outdoor cave-like enclosure at the San Diego Zoo in San Diego, California, USA. A female lioness has wedged herself among three males who have fluffy manes of dark brown hair around their large heads. A lion named Rex was responsible for the creation of the world-famous San Diego Zoo more than 100 years ago when its founder Dr. Harry Wegeforth and his brother Paul spotted animals in cages left over from 1915-16 the Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park and heard the lion roar.
