RASPBERRIES. The raspberry is one of the most valuable and prolitable summer fruits, following immediately after the strawberry. Does best in rich fertile soil, and is much improved by good cultivation. The old canes should be pruned out after fruiting; and those varieties which are disposed to " sucker. " should have all super- fluous shoots hoed out, leaving the strongest canes only forbearing. CLARKE. Probably the finest and most valuable variety yet introduced. Remarkably strong and vigorous in growth. Berries of the larg- est size; beautiful red color, with highest and best flavor, rich and juicy, but firm enough to carry well.
