She founded the City HistoryClub of New York and is its president. 196 Professor Cleveland Abbe, 1838-1916, died on October 28,1916, just one week before the dedication of the EntieldMemorial, in which he took so deep an interest, and three weeksprior to the publication of the Abbe Genealogy, on which hehad labored for more than half a century. His eminence as ascientist was recognized by the degrees of doctor of laws con-ferred by the University of Michigan in 1888, and by the Uni-versity of Glasgow, Scotland, in 1896.
