Upon being graduated from this college he was offered severalexcellent business opportunities, which he declined in favor of the great benefits he has conferred upon the world while following thiscourse has amply proved the wisdom of his conduct. Several churches of Baltimore later had the benefit of hisministrations. He built the original Harlem Park Church and the Straw-bridge Church, the former being later rebuilt on a larger scale to meet therequirements of a larger congregation, and this work was undertaken bythe Rev. Edward L. Watson, who had been a student under Dr. First Methodist Episcopal Church, at St. Paul and Twenty-secondstreets, is also a monument to the labors of Dr. Goucher and a testimonyto his persistent energy.
