Seldom, if ever, has so complete a transformationtaken place in hospitals in so short a time, and in suchwholesale fashion. On the retirement of MajorGreble from the position of superintendent of theDepartment of Charities, Major J. R. Kean receivedthe appointment, and the subsequent success of theschools was due largely to his personal interest andkeen appreciation of the actual requirements at thiscritical period of the schools existence.
