The complex of Roman theater located in Pietravairano on Mount San Nicola at 326 meters high, was identified in 2001. Recent studies conducted by the University of Lecce have shown that it is a Roman theater, but it was certainly previously Samnite, because the Romans, unlike the Samnites, hardly united theater and is because the theater, as for the ancient Greeks, was considered another location of the sacred in the Sannio while for the Romans the theater was entertainment and connected more to Venus Porno than to Venus Urania. On the top of the mountain there are also the remains

On the top of the mountain there are also the remains of a Samnite temple. The interventions on the remains of the theater were very invasive and did not appeal to many archaeologists. The path to reach the excavations is impervious and steep.
