PORTLAND, Ore. (April 21, 2018) Distinguished guests and visitors watch as the amphibious transport ship USS Portland (LPD 27) ‘comes to life’ during the ship’s commissioning ceremony, April 21. Portland is the Navy’s 11th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship. It is the third ship to bear the name USS Portland, however it is the first ship to be named solely for Oregon’s largest city.
