A Celebration of spring the very English event of dancing around the Maypole on the village green at Ickwell, Bedfordshire is a tradition in this attractive English village dating back to 1565. In time pass a tree was felled to provide the pole until in 1872 a permanent Maypole was errected by the village Squire John Harvey, who left a bequest in his will to fund the annual celebration. Today the dancing around the Maypole by the village children is a colourfull celebration watched on by the newly crowned May Queen, her maids and attendents.
