This Watchkeeper platform used for reconnaissance and surveillance carries 2 payloads : a powerful camera at the back and SAR synthetic aperture radar at the front. West Wales Airport nr Aberporth. Currently the only UK airport that hosts Unmanned Aerial Vehicle flights [ take off and landing ] . This is the current home of the MOD's 5 BN GBP Watchmaker project . Flying out of sight as it's known means that these UAV flights occur in restricted segregated airspace. The use of the airport as providing facilities for testing UAV's is the cornerstone of engineer turned aviation entrepreneur Ray Mann [65] who owns the airport and has created the National Aeronautical Centre as a hub for this emerging aviation industry. The NAC is made up of Aberporth and Newquay airports although Newquay is a partnership and not owned by Mann.
