It dates back to 1397, but it has burned down many times and the present structure was rebuilt in 1955. The golden pavilion (Kinkaku-ji) in Kyoto, Japan, is beautiful at any time of the year, but especially in the fall when the maple trees in the surrounding area turn red. Here the temple and the small nearby island are reflected in the lake and seen through some of the famous old cypress trees that grow nearby.
