Arm bones and joints. Computer artwork of an anterior view of the bones and joints of a human arm with the hand palm upwards. At the shoulder, the humerus (upper arm bone) articulates with the scapula (shoulder blade) with the clavicle (collar bone) helping to stabilise the joint. The humerus articulates at the elbow with the two lower arm bones (ulna, left; radius, right). These in turn articulate with the carpal bones of the wrist. Below these are the metacarpals, followed by the phalanges of the fingers and thumb. In both the elbow and shoulder, the ends of the bones are shown covered in articular cartilage (a form of hyaline cartilage).
