Chester Cathedral, nave to west. Columns on south side (left) begun 1360, those on north completed 1490. Ceiling vaulting restored by George Gilbert Scott, using oak ribs (to save weight). Gilded bosses cleaned 1997. West window by Carter Shapland 1961. Cathedral was formerly StÊWerburgh's Abbey church of Benedictine monastery.
