William Huskisson. British politician William Huskisson (1790-1830), the first passenger killed by a railway train. Huskisson, a Tory member of parliament, was a firm supporter of the building of railways. He was invited by the directors of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway to attend the opening of the first public passenger railway. During the opening Huskisson was knocked down by Stephenson's Rocket and died later that day.
