Robik prototype brain-computer interface (BCI). This helmet consists of electrodes which detect electrical signals produced by brain activity. It allows severely disabled patients who cannot speak to communicate. The patient counts and selects letters flashed up in a matrix on a computer screen, and the electrodes attached to his/her head detect the resulting brain signals. The system software decodes the signals into letters which are spelt out on the screen.
