Portrait of a Seated Woman, 18th-19th century. Circle of François-André Vincent (French, 1746-1816). Black chalk heightened with white chalk on brown paper; sheet: x cm (17 15/16 x 11 7/8 in.). This drawing, presumably a study for a painted portrait, depicts a seated woman, dressed in a long gown and fashionable hat. Her casual pose, with one hand placed nonchalantly on her knee, her right elbow resting on the back of a chair, and a gaze unfocused on something outside the scene, gives the image an intimate informality.
