Members of the Coast Guard Cutter Healy deck department lower an oil skimmer into the ice-laden Beaufort Sea during a simulated spilled oil recovery exercise Sept. 10, 2013. Multiple Coast Guard units and partner agencies and organizations, coordinated by the Coast Guard Research and Development Center, cooperated to accomplish the exercise, which explored the potential for present technology to respond to an oil spill in the extreme Arctic environment.
