PUERTO RICO (Sept. 24, 2017) - Chief Boatswain's Mate Derek Norris, assigned to Assault Craft Unit 2, observes well deck operations aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) before departing to Puerto Rico to conduct transport operations in support of Hurricane Maria relief efforts September 24. The Department of Defense is supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering and as one component of the overall whole-of-government response efforts.
