The DE dashes alongside. A line is fired from ship to ship and the patient, snug in a litter, is passed through the air to the doctor. Aboard the Coast Guard vessel, a Public Health Service doctor with his staff of pharmacist's mates is ready to perform an appendectomy at sea.
