He was not only a medicine man of suchrepute that he was known in this capacity even tothe Warramunga, but he was also a great maker ofmedicine men. It is quite possible that he owed hisreputation in part to the fact that his magic belongedto a distant country, and being therefore more or lessunknown was correspondingly potent. Be this as itmay, he was undoubtedly a map of considerable influence,so much so that that he took really the leading part inpreparing the Wollunqua ceremonies. On the secondday he made a curious curved bundle somewhat like anenormous rounded boomerang. It was composed of grassstalks bound round and round with human hair string andthen ornamented with white down. One of the performerscarried it on his head as shown in the illustration (Fig. 279),
