For thispurpose the plant employed consists of a ventilating shaft togetherwith means for producing the air-blast, and space for separatingout the coarser particles, allowing the fine dust to pass on to thefiltering shaft. The hard-rubber flour to be separated is drawnby means of an exhaust-fan from the chest below the milling-rollsthrough a trunk, and falls into a hopper placed close up to theventilating shaft. Two smooth wooden rollers close the mouthof the hopper, and as they revolve allow only so much of theground ebonite to pass through as they can distribute. A specialfan blows a blast of air into the fan shaft, which can be regu-lated by means of valves, and this passes through the valves tothe outlet, taking with it at this point the powder falling fromthe hopper. The fine dust is carried forward some distance beforeset
