For making the camp habitable and for the work hospitality they received aboard the icebreaker the men presented Captain Ronke a wooden plaque (made by the Seabees) in which was carved a paddle and an inscription saying: "To the officers and men of the CGC Eastwind who are the best--please accept this in jest on the waves that you straddle--think of us as you paddle. From all of the men at William Air Operation Facility. March 1956.".
