Not for use in Television Not for use in Television Infected olecranon bursitis ( Student's Elbow ). Olecranon bursitis is a swelling and inflammation of the bursa of the elbow, a sac of fibrous tissue lined with synovial membrane and filled with fluid. Bursae exist where body parts move in contact, where they serve to reduce friction. The elbow and knee are the most commonly affected sites. They become inflamed through injury, infection or by rheumatoid synovitis. In the absence of any infection, bursitis is treated with rest and sometimes steroid injections. If infected, antibiotics may be required.
