Platform 2, Grange-over-Sands railway station. Cumbria

The advent of the Furness Railway transformed the small fishing village of Grange-over-Sands into the fashionable Victorian, Edwardian resort, with wealthy merchants building grand houses, now top quality hotels. There is an eight mile guided walk across to Morcambe Bay, usually starting from Arnside and ending at Kents Bank. The walk takes three hours, with many birds including, oyster catchers, ducks as well as splendid views of the coastline.
