West Fjords, Iceland, satellite image. This jagged coastline is found in the West Fjords (Vestfirdir) peninsula in the north-west of Iceland. White snow and ice covers the mountain peaks. Land is orange and the sea is dark blue. The fjords are the steep and narrow inlets of the sea. They are usually formed by glacial erosion. The major Arnarfjordur fjord is at lower left. The image is around 70 kilometres wide. Image acquired on 6 June 2000 by the Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) sensor on NASA's Landsat 7 satellite.
