Lassa virus protein and antibodies. Illustration of the glycoprotein (GPC, blue and pink) of the Lassa virus binding to antibodies (yellow and white) that act to neutralise the virus. This is known as antibody-mediated neutralization. This glycoprotein is the sole antigen expressed on the viral surface and is the critical target for antibody-mediated neutralization. Lassa virus is found in West Africa and is transmitted by rats. It causes fever, headache and severe muscular pain. It can be fatal.
