Ruddy Duck,Probably a summer resident. During migration theseducks are quite common all over the state. Coues reportsthem from Pacific creek; Bond from Cheyenne, and Jesurunfrom Douglas. McCarthy took one specimen on the Sweet-water, Oct. 10, 1857. West says it is common at Lake De-Smet. Chen hyperborea (Pall.).Lesser Snow ; rare. Grinnell reports having seen a flockof these birds on the Yellowstone river near the lake, has taken a few at Cheyenne. I have seen several floclcsof white geese about Huttons lakes which I anticipate wereof this species; but since none were killed the record is ques-tioned. 171 a. Anser albifrous gambeli (Hartl.).American White-fronted Goose. Accidental; very rare. Bond reports this species as fol-lows: I have mounted a fresh specimen which was said tohave been killed at the Cheyenne lakes. 172. Branta canadensis (Linn.).Canada Goose,Summer resident; rather common. During migrationthey are rather abundant about lakes, and often remain untilthe 1st of December. Dr. Jesurun has found them nestingin dead trees along the North Platte river near Douglas. Thenests were usually from 18 to 25 feet from the ground. The
