After the war he was assessor of Internal Revenue for two years, andin 1875 was land commissioner for one-half of Marion county, to placea valuation on all real estate for taxation. In the spring of iS;6, hemoved to Platte county, Nebraska, of which he was elected county com-missioner one term, and since then his health has been so bad, that hehas declined to serve in any office, though often solicited by the peopleto do so.
