Born near the village of Walden, Herman .spent his entire life upon a farm, his vent-ures as an agriculturist being quite was prominent in local affairs, and filled themajority of the town offices. His death occurredwhen he was about sixty years old. It is worthyof note that his father and grandfather were bornin the same house, on the old homestead nearWalden. The family history in America datesback to Alexander Kidd, who came to this coun-try from the North of Ireland in 1732, and set-tled near Walden, being one of the first settlersof that part of Orange County. The mother ofMrs. Smith was also born near Walden, being adaughter of Silas and Susan Weed Leeds, whosettled in this town about 1815. She spent her. AMOS F. HOLDEN. O. O. F., at Walden. Withhis wife he holds membership in the German Re-formed Church, and his contributions to religiousand benevolent enterprises are as generous as hismeans permit.
