Edward Stafford, (1478 – 17 May 1521), the 3rd duke of Buckingham, was beheaded on Tower Hill outside the Tower of London, after being found guilty of high treason against Henry VIII, his first cousin once removed .This old illustration shows him praying in gaol immediately before execution reciting the 'penitential psalms'. He was 43.
