The bronze work was commissioned to celebrate the 80th anniversary of his debut in The Sunday Post. Dundee’s comic character heritage is being celebrated with a new statue of Oor Wullie in the city centre. On Saturday 5th March 2016 saw the unveiling of a new sculpture of Scotland's favourite schoolboy Oor Wullie which marked the 80th anniversary of his first appearance in The Sunday Post. A statue immortalizing the famous spiky haired mischief maker of Oor Wullie has been cast in a 4ft-tall bronze sculpture and now sits proudly outside the McManus Galleries in Dundee.
