Rome, Italy - October 2014; Very appropriate on San'Angelo Bridge! Ponte Sant'Angelo, once the Pons Aelius (Bridge of Hadrian) is an ancient Roman bridge which was completed in 134 AD by Roman Emperor Hadrian. It spanned the Tiber, from the city center to his newly constructed mausoleum; this is the site now dominated by the fearsome Castel Sant'Angelo. The bridge is lined with beautiful sculptures, of which this angel holding a spear is a fine example. It was created by Ercole Ferrata (1610 C 1686), an Italian sculptor of the Roman Baroque.
