R., age seventy, with no venerealhistory, complained, September 27, 1888, of frequentmicturition with severe tenesmus and blood at the endof each act. Urine nearly clear. Small amount ofresidual urine. Prostate moderately enlarged. Hewas treated with diuretics until October 9th, whenthere was no improvement and he was irrigated witli a. permanganate solution, 1 to 3,000, two ounces beingleft in the bladder. October 13th. Great improvement. Irrigation witha 1 to 2,000 solution. The patient did not return, butwas seen a year later and said that he made a rapidand complete recovery after the last visit. The causeof the vesical symptoms in this case is obscure. Case VII. L. E., age twenty-two years, no vene-real history. October 18, 1888. For six weeks has been troubledwith frequent and painful micturition with vesicaltenesmus ; occasionally passes a small amount of turbid; when passed in two glasses the last halfis slightly tinged with blood and contains whitish clumpswhich, under the microscope, prove to be only few days later the urine contained a heavy sedimentof pus, most of which was passed toward the end ofmicturition, and a little blood ; albumen one-quarterper cent.
