Astrology book artwork. Frontispiece artwork from The Astrologer of the Nineteenth Century (1825). The artwork was titled \Magic Ceremonies\", and the caption (not seen) was: \"Such were the mystic rites, ceremonies and incantations, used by the ancient Theurgists to burst asunder the bonds of natural order, and to obtain an awful intercourse with the World of Spirits.\" The artwork shows a man kneeling before a book of spells, within a magical circle, surrounded by demonic creatures, with an angel at upper left. This 560-page book, published in London, England, was by the English astrologer Robert Cross Smith (1795-1832), best known as Raphael. The book included chapters on astrology, invoking the dead, and magical talismans, charms, and incantations."
