Abel Niepce (1805-1870). 1860 French engraving of the French physicist Abel Niepce de Saint-Victor. Niepce is best known as a photographic inventor. He experimented with negatives made with albumen on glass and worked on the fixation of natural photographic colour and the process for photomechanical printing. He also discovered the Uranium salts produce radiation invisible to the human eye.
