Homo ergaster skull discovered in Koobi Fora, Kenya, in 1975. This fossil dates to the Pleistocene period, million years ago. Homo ergaster was the first of our ancestors to look more like modern humans. These people were generally tall and slender and may also have been relatively hairless. The name Homo ergaster roughly translates to 'working man', a reference to the more advanced tools used by the species in comparison to those of their ancestors. Some still prefer to use the term African Homo erectus.
