This cortex or gray matter of the cerebrum is the organ of themind, and the so-called centres are simply the terminal stations ofthe diiferent peripheral nerves which are thus brought into connec-tion with the mind as a whole. The centres are therefore simplycompartments of the mind, and clinical observation constantly showsthat lesion of any one of these centres need not cause mental impair-ment ; and that, in order that mental impairment shall be produced.
