MOTOR-GENERATOR SETS FOR RAILWAY WORK IN LOWER STATU N The armature is 13 ins. (335 mm) in diameter and ins.( 120 mm) in width. Each of the thirty-seven grooves contains36 wires, triple-covered with silk and varnished. The fourpoles, which are connected in series, have each20 turns of wire. The motors are series-coupled when runningslowly, and parallel-coupled at high speeds andheavy loads. For control there are four series,six parallel and six braking positions. One ofthe motors can be put out of circuit, withoutinterfering with the running and braking of thecar, by lifting a contact on the reversinghandle. All of the controller contact-fingersare furnished with arc extinguishers. Some ofthe cars are fitted with emergency brake besidethe usual hand brake. CAR HOUSE The car house has a capacity of twelve cars,with two car pits and four tracks.
